In one of the cases reported from Ranchi, Jharkhand, children of a deceased man have alleged murder of their father – by his second wife for insurance money.
Case:
Late Rakesh Ranjan was a resident of Mangalam Enclave F3-B on Pundag Road under Argora police station area of Ranchi.
About two hours before his death on March 20, Ranjan called his first wife Rekha Ranjan and son Ronit Ranjan and informed them that he was very scared.
According to both his children from first wife – Ronit and daughter Riya – their father could never die by suicide. Speaking to media, the children expressed that their father was not a weak man and knew how to deal with situations.
The children have accused Ranjan’s second wife Preeti of plotting the murder.
Ronit and Riya alleged that Preeti had gradually removed their grandparents, mother and both of them from their home in Ranchi.
About Preeti
Preeti was earlier married to one Sunil Kumar and has two sons – elder son Ankit Shubham and younger son Aditya Shubham. Allegedly she left her husband in 2007 and later came in contact with Ranjan. All three of them (Preeti and sons) started living in Ranjan’s house eventually.
Ronit and Riya allege that as soon as she entered their house, Preeti started inflicting atrocities on the family members. Initially the grandparents left the house and started living separately. Both children allege harassment at the hands of Preeti, post which they too were forced to leave the house and eventually the entire property was allegedly transferred in Preeti’s name.
Ranjan’s Death
On March 20, at around 5am, Preeti Ranjan called and informed Ronit and Riya that their father had died by suicide by jumping off the roof. The police cordoned off the room so that no evidence could be destroyed.
Later, on March 21, Preeti Ranjan and her son collected all the valuables from the house including property papers, which is when Riya called Ranchi Police Captain Surendra Kumar Jha and City SP Saurabh Kumar and pleaded for justice.
Insurance Money
About 6 months ago, an envelope in the name of Ranjan arrived at their home in Patna. Riya then learnt that an insurance of Rs 75 lakh had been taken in the name of Ranjan with nominee names of Preeti Ranjan, her son Ankit and Aditya Shubham were first written in the nominee.
Riya and her brother Ronit allege that their father has been murdered to grab this insurance amount.
When Kohram Live portal tried reaching Preeti, they did not receive any response.
In the meantime, Sub Inspector Rakesh Kumar Singh of Argora Police has started investigation by registering a murder case.
