Remember Sumit-Tapaswini case from Odisha? Tapaswini was protesting in front of her in-laws’ house for 44 days. After protesting in front of the house for more than a month, wife along with local women activists had barged into the husband’s home.
Sumit later released a video alleging alimony demand by Tapaswini.
Now in a recent development in the ongoing Berhampur marital discord case, Sumit Sahu had been ordered to pay a monthly maintenance Rs 17,000 to his estranged wife Tapaswini Dash.
Reportedly, Sumit has deposited the money in form of a bank draft in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) through his lawyer. Although he had said that he will not be able to deposit this amount of money for Tapaswini’s maintenance. However, he paid the money respecting Court’s order.
It is to be noted that Sumit was ordered to pay Rs 17,000 towards Tapaswini’s maintenance on the 10th of every month.
Besides, Sumit appeared in family court for counseling but it could not be held due to Tapawini’s absence.
Earlier, on January 4, District and Sessions court of Ganjam ordered that Tapaswini Dash will stay with her husband, Dr Sumit Sahu, in her in-laws’ place in Bramhanagar.
Orissa High Court
Orissa High court later lowered the monthly maintenance amount from Rs 17,000 to Rs 10,000.
It is to be noted that, Sumit’s family had filed an appeal assuring arrangements of Tapaswini’s stay elsewhere. However, the Court decided that Sumit will now pay monthly maintenance of Rs 10,000 to Tapaswini but she will stay at her in-laws place till the next hearing.
