A newly-recruited OFS (Odisha Finance Service) officer was found hanging in a room of his house under Khandagiri Police limits in the capital city of Odisha. The deceased has been identified as Abhilash Swaroop Mahapatra, a native of Titilagarh in Bolangir district. He was living in Phase-4 of Dumduma area in Bhubaneswar with his wife and two children (5-year-old daughter and 2-month-old boy).
35-year-old Abhilash was supposed to join duty at the treasury office on Monday. According to police, he locked himself up in a room of his house on Sunday following a quarrel. When he did not open the door despite repeated calls, his wife called some of their neighbours. He was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where doctors pronounced him dead.

We’ve registered a case based on a complaint that said an Odisha Finance Service officer committed suicide by hanging himself due to a family dispute in Khandagiri area. He was supposed to join the duty in a few days.
Adding further Sahu said,
We did not find any foul play behind his death. He hanged himself to death. The exact motive of his suicide is being investigated. But, prima facie we suspect he ended his life out of frustration over marital discord.
Meanwhile, the OFS officer’s body was handed over to his family after post-mortem and his last rites were performed in Puri’s Swargadwar last night.

According to the DCP, they were questioning a family, who lived in the house’s ground floor on rent. He quoted,
We also questioned the officer’s maid and his wife. They said he was in deep stress over family matter. They did not disclose much. We have registered a case of unnatural death and are inquiring into the matter.
Police sources said Mahapatra, who had a bright career having knack in finance and economy, was a former banker. Another police officer said,
His family members told us that he was a brilliant student. He used to work with a nationalised bank and cracked Odisha civil services in 2017. After training and probation, he was scheduled to join the office of the special treasury here on Monday.
Mahapatra’s batch mates too were shocked over his death. One of his batch mates on condition of anonymity told media,
I still cannot believe Abhilash left us. Until recently, we had discussed about Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide, stress and frustration. We never felt nor realised Abhilash was in stress. Police should probe and arrest those, who might have abetted his suicide.
