As the case progressed, the social media post was an alleged planned one, perhaps with an intention to go viral. The said accusations were randomly thrown up by the girl after 2+years of the alleged incident. The naming and shaming of the minor boy – within minutes of the post – ended everything not just for Manav, but his parents too. Manav was the only child to Tanuja and Manoj Kumar, residents of DLF Phase V – Gurugram.
On his 18th birthday (Nov 28), which unfortunately now happens to be Manav’s first birth anniversary, the father has penned an emotional note for his beloved son….
Manav – Today is your 18th Birthday, a very special day in our lives. It is a milestone which you looked forward to with such eagerness and curiosity. You waited for this day, ever since you turned 17. You were keen that we celebrate it with great fervour, when you officially become an adult.
Today you are 18. Now you can vote & get your driving licence. I remember the intensity with which you wanted to vote and make your one single vote count. You were keen that every citizen’s voice must be heard, especially of the weak and oppressed.
Every single day’s memory of you has been a real blessing to us all. You are the most amazing son in the world, each word you said flashes in our memory and cracks us up. You gave us much happiness and always thought well of others. You gave your time to your family, friends, teachers, elders, Momo (pet), football.
We are so proud of you for everything you did, stood for and achieved. You knew right from wrong and good from bad. You have a kind golden heart, which beats with compassion for everyone.
Having an understanding, intelligent and caring son like you is the wish of every parent in the world. You caused celebrations in minds of everyone you came across in your life. You left an impression on even those who you met once in life, fleetingly.
You pursued your passions with devotion and the world would have definitely benefitted with you being in it. You wanted to be a great man, with finest values and integrity. You always wanted to be just and fair. You wanted to be an accomplished businessman, giving shape to novel ideas and creating “something” of everlasting value. You talked to me of your business plans and you knew that you can get everything you desire if you believe in yourself and chase after your dreams with all your might and devotion.
In 18 years, you learnt to hold my hand and walk and now at 6’-1” you have grown much taller than anyone in the family. You turned out to be a handsome young lad, with that sweet innocent smile.
You have a huge heart, 100 x the size of your parents. As you grew you gave away your bayblades, cards, toys to those who needed them more than you. You shared everything altruistically, without any expectation of a return.
You grew from being a son into a friend, a wise counsel and a pragmatic young man today. You sat next to me, working on your school assignments, on your desk. I still see your desk in the morning, by the window. I feel fortunate to have taken a few black & white photographs of you as a child. I see them every day and touch them gently.
We are now going to look for you in your friends and watch them grow into fine men and women over the years. We hope that what you started and couldn’t experience or complete; your peers, friends and well-wishers will resolve to bring it to a positive conclusion. We hope that all the things you hold dear in this world come true, with you watching over its implementation. Each of your dreams was big enough to alter the world.
You will always remain in our hearts, and the glow will increase with every passing day. We will love you endlessly, till the end of time.
You will always remain a young 17 year old boy to us, with that wonderful smile. Like Dev Anand you will never age!

While we want to ensure absolute safety for our daughters, we cannot become ruthless towards our sons on mere allegations by anyone. Please be extremely responsible before you start name calling and shaming Boys/Men because it may sound ‘cool’ to swim with the tide. You never know how you could end up contributing to a family’s loss – which can never be undone.
