In a shocking story reported from West Bengal, a 22-year-old woman allegedly set her father on fire after she took him out for dinner and got him drunk. The incident took place in Kolkata when the daughter-father duo went out for a walk.
Case:
According to the official statement by police, once her father fell asleep as they were sitting on a bench on the banks of the Hooghly river, the woman allegedly poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. The entire incident was caught on CCTV and the woman confessed to the crime as well.
Investigation:
The woman, a resident of Christopher Road near Park Circus, was arrested on a complaint lodged by her uncle. During interrogation, the woman told the police that her father would physically assault her and torture her emotionally.
A police officer investigating the matter said,
During interrogation, she claimed that after her mother died when she was a child, her father started physically assaulting her and also used to torture her emotionally. However, it stopped after she got married. But, as her marriage broke off and she returned home, the torture started again.
The officer added,
We are verifying her claims.
The woman was sent to police custody till March 29 after she was produced before the court on Monday.
