India conveniently ignores the plight of married men, often leaving many of them with no choice but sadly to end their life. Yet another incident of #HusbandSuicide has been reported from Pune, Maharashtra, where a 24-year-old soldier died suicide after being harassed by his wife.
Case:
Gorakh Nanabhau Shelar was working as a nursing assistant at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). He was married to one Ashwini Yuvraj Patil on February 16, 2021.
Prior to suicide, the Shelar left a video and written a note, basis which the police has registered a case against the soldier’s wife and in-laws.
Ashwini Yuvraj Patil, Yuvraj Patil, Sangita Yuvraj Patil, Yogesh Patil and Bhagyashree Patil – all have been booked by Wanwadi police in Pune after Keshav Patil (brother of the victim) lodged a complaint in this regard. However, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Allegations by Deceased Husband’s Family
Keshav Patil alleged that since February 16, 2021 to February 06, 2022, his brother was mentally harassed by his wife Ashwini. He has also accused Nanabhau’s in-laws of harassment.
As per Keshav, Ashwini’s family was demanding Rs 15 lakh for divorce and Nanabhau was fed up of constant mental and physical harassment due to this.
Thus, within one year of marriage, Nanabhau decided to end life by hanging himself at his residence. In his complaint, Keshav alleged,
My brother was married to Ashwini Patil on February 16, 2021. Ashwini was threatening to file a false complaint against my brother that he had forced her for abortion. His in-laws were also threatening to file false cases if he did not agree for divorce.
My brother has died by suicide within a year of his marriage.
