Yet another case of #HusbandSuicide has been reported from Gurugram where a private company executive died by suicide due to alleged harassment by his wife and in-laws.
Four people, including three women, were booked on Saturday for abetment to suicide by Gurugram police in this matter.
Ravinder, an executive of a private company, was married to Manisha in January 2015 in Alwar, Rajasthan, and they have a four-year-old son —Yuhan. The husband had consumed poison and killed himself on August 26. Initially no case was registered as his family members didn’t suspect a foul play, reported TOI.
Om Singh, father of Ravinder, was unaware of the reason behind his son’s suicide and in his earlier statement, recorded before the police, had mentioned that his son might have ended life due to some personal reasons and stress.
However, recently, when Singh checked his son’s room, he found a notebook in his suitcase which also had a suicide note. The father then informed police,
Ravinder had written a suicide note in that notebook.
In the suicide note, Ravinder had mentioned that he is dying by suicide due to the harassment he was facing from his wife had her family. Ravinder mentioned the names of Manisha – accused wife, Suman – accused maternal aunt of the wife, Surat Singh – accused maternal uncle of the wife and Manisha’s mother Kamlesh Devi guilty of harassment.
Subsequently, a case was registered at Farrukhnagar police station, basis the complaint given by victim husband’s father, who alleged that his daughter-in-law and her family were responsible for his son’s death.
According to the police, the note was written on August 25, as it was undersigned with date by Ravinder.
The suicide note submitted by Singh to police was sent to a handwriting expert who confirmed it matched with Ravinder’s handwriting. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under:
- Section 306 (abetment of suicide)
- Section 34 (common intention)
…of the IPC.
As per NCRB Suicide Report 2019, nearly 98,000 Men died by suicide in India where top reason remained Domestic/Family Problems. The suicide number for Women in India in the same year was recorded at 41,000. Yet, India does not recognise Domestic Violence / Domestic Abuse of Husbands as a Law.
Besides, Gender Biased Laws such as false dowry harassment case, false domestic violence, other false criminal charges are often used by wives and their families to control, dominate and manipulate husbands in all possible ways. Kids too, are often used as tools, and most Men suffer abusive marriages silently due to fear of being separated from their children.
Men in distress please get in touch with the below NGOs. Remember, your death will only and only be mourned by your ageing parents, as justice for Men in India is a distant reality, and often comes after death of petitioner parents.
