Domestic violence on men is as real as DV on women. However, many men are now gathering courage to open up and take recourse to the law when the suffering is beyond a limit.
A 29-year-old man from Ahmedabad city’s Maninagar area submitted an application on Thursday, alleging that his ‘alcoholic’ wife tortures him physically and mentally. According to an official, the applicant contacted Khokhra police station and asked them for protection.
The applicant married his wife in March 2018 after the two were in a relationship. However, he only learned about her addiction to alcohol after their marriage.
As per his allegations, the woman, in an inebriated state, subjects him and his parents to physical and mental torture. After getting drunk, she also visits his workplace and creates a nuisance. Not just this, the woman also pressurised him to leave his elderly parents and move into a new home.
In June, the man’s parents contracted the coronavirus, following which he returned to their house in order to look after their health. The wife later shifted to the first floor of the house but never helped in taking care of her husband’s parents who were ailing in pain.
Shockingly, during such difficult times for the family, she demanded that the ownership of the house be transferred to her. The man said she also threatened to end her life if they did not fulfil her demand.
Wife Rebounds With False Allegations
According to a police official, the complaint man said that as part of a conspiracy, his wife had in June submitted an application against him and his parents at the Khokhra police station. Later, on September 11, she lodged a complaint against them accusing them of subjecting her to cruelty. The man said that she still lives on the house’s first floor, thrashes him after consuming liquor and then dials women’s helpline to make false allegations against him.
The man, in his application to the police, has pleaded that his elderly parents would be at the mercy of his ‘alcoholic’ wife if something happens to him. After occurrence of all these events, he has sought police protection for his and his parents’ safety.
Khokhra police station inspector YS Gamit said they will take action after verifying the details mentioned in the application.
