India in 2022 still mocks and laughs upon plight of married men. If any male dares to even express the trauma he is undergoing, we often tell him to ‘be a man’ or to carry on because ‘he is a man’.
Sadly, such mentality is only leading to more and more men ending lives due to mindset of society and secondly due to absence of gender neutral matrimonial laws.
Yet another #HusbandSuicide has been reported this time from Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Case:
Dr Abhijeet Ratnakar Dhamankar (38), a resident of Raut Chowk, Tandapeth, Pachpaoli, ended his life at Kimaya Multi-Speciality Hospital where he was working for the past couple of years. Dr Abhijeet was the son of former Senate Member of RTM Nagpur University Dr Ratnakar Dhamankar.
The cause of death has been attributed to an overdose of atracurium (a neuromuscular blocker).
However, the actual reason cited was alleged harassment by wife Seema Gaikwad, and his brother-in-law Vinay Gaikwad and one Rahul Lokhande, that compelled him to end his life.
Suicide Note
A suicide note was recovered from Dr Abhijeet’s pocket in which he had shared that he was taking the extreme step due to harassment by his wife and in-laws who were not allowing him to meet with his child.
His wife had filed a case of Dowry Harassment and Domestic Violence against him at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station.
On February 15, at around 2am, Dr Abhijeet injected himself with an overdose of anaesthesia at Kimaya Hospital. When other doctors learnt about it, they started treating him in the same hospital. However, at around 5am, Dr Abhijeet breathed his last.

Police Statement
Police started further probe after registering a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. An official from the Ganeshpeth police station told PTI,
The cause of death has been stated as overdose of atracurium (a neuromuscular blocker). His suicide note has blamed his wife, brother-in-law and one more person. He injected himself at 2am and died at 5am while undergoing treatment.
