India has often been accused as a land of Dowry seekers. However, when endless demands are made by women and their families, we like to label it as HER RIGHT or SHAGUN (auspicious gifts).
In an unfortunate incident reported from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, a young man died by suicide after he was repeatedly pressurised for money by his fiancée.
Case:
30-Year-Old Lakhan Makhija lived in I Block of Kailash Royal Colony in Naroda. After his engagement, his fiancée started making endless demands for cash, jewelry, holiday trips, etc.
The woman was allegedly also harassing Lakhan to raise Rs 1 crore funds for her so that she could go to Canada.The pressure mounted so much on the young man, that he could not take it anymore and decided to end his life by hanging himself in his home.
Demands Made By Fiancée
According to the allegations made by victim’s family, since the engagement, Lakhan’s would-be-wife was making several demands. It started with an iPhone, to a holiday costing Rs 1 lakh in Leh-Ladakh.
The woman then demanded a white gold set and a diamond set. All chat and call recordings pertaining to these demands were handed over to the police after Lakhan’s demise.
Police Action
Naroda police, on the basis of evidences provided by Lakhan’s family has booked the woman on charges of abetment to suicide under Section 306 IPC.
All the evidences have been sent to FSL by the police.
